Interconnection Accessories for NTS Systems

Custom 24 Pair Interface Cable

Most installations will want to purchase a custom cable, which simplifies the interface of the NexPath systems to the building wiring. Custom Cable

The CBL-24 cable has a 50 pin telco standard male Amphenol connector at one end, also call an RJ-21X connector, and 24 RJ-11 connectors at the other end. The CBL-24 cable will interface up to three NexPath CBTI cards (24 ports). The cable is 3 meters in length.

It is possible to connect directly to the CBTI cards in the NexPath system. However, there are only four RJ-11 connectors on the back of each CBTI card, and the wiring can become confusing, since the lines are arranged as one, two, or three per connector. The CBL-24 assists in reducing the complexity of the installation, by presenting each outside or inside line in numerical order on either the mini-patch panel or punch-down block shown below.

RJ-11 Break Out Box

The RJ-11 break out box, also called a mini-patch panel, is used with the CBL-24 above Mini Patch Panel to simplify the installation of NexPath systems.

The mini-patch panel used for smaller installations which already have RJ-11 jacks, and intend to use RJ-11 connectors and stranded wire for the telephone wire connections. This method of installation is normally not used with more than 10 extensions. Instead, the more standard telco punch-down block below is used for most larger installations.

The mini-patch panel has positions for 9 central office lines and 15 extension (station) lines, with one jack unused. It is 4" wide x 6" long x 1.25" inches deep.

Punch-down block

The punch down block, also called a "66" block, is a standard telco interconnection system used in most phone rooms. It can accommodate up to 9 outside lines and 15 inside lines, with one position Punch Down Block unused. Bridging clips (included) are required to connect the right side of prongs to the left side.

Punch-down blocks are used for installations that involve solid wire. They are not appropriate for stranded wire.

The punch-down block (show at right) is 10" high x 2.25" wide x 2.5" deep. It has a cover and a 50 pin female telco style connected on the right side, which is designed to mate to the custom cable described above. When connected to the NexPath system, the 9 CO lines are presented on the first 18 rows at the top, and the 15 station lines are presented on 30 rows at the bottom. Two middle rows are not connected.
