Computer telephony with the NexPath
Telephony Server is unique: the NexPath system functions as a black box in the telephone closet, and
access for call control and administration is via the network connection (the LAN). The NexPath Server is embedded, i.e., it
does not normally use a console screen or keyboard except for maintenance purposes. Both native Windows clients
and web browser access via the LAN are supported. The network is used for command and control; voice is conventional
using telephone wiring and analog telephone sets. All of the software described below comes standard
on the NexPath CommServer, and can be run on any number of network connected PCs.
Native Windows tools communicate with the NTS CommServer using a technique known
as sockets. Complete call control, voice mail access, and system monitoring can be done via the
network socket interface. The socket protocol is a variation of an emerging new standard known as SCTP:
NexPath Simple Computer
Telephony Protocol. It has the advantage of being lightening fast, and simple to learn and use.
NexPath SCTP can be used from Java, Visual Basic, or C++.
The Windows clients supplied with the NTS Server run on Win95/98/ME and NT4/2000, and install from a CDROM on each PC in the conventional
way.
The following is a list of the software supplied with the NTS Server:
- AdminTool- NTS Server Administration (Web based)
- BackupTool- Backup utility for voice mail and configuration data (Web based)
- NexDial- Desktop dialer for call control and voice mail access (Windows)
- NexDirector- Operators console program for directing calls and monitoring the system activity (Windows)
- InstallTool- Maintenance utility for installing new software releases (Windows)
- On-line Manuals- All of the system manuals are also available on-line from the NTS Server in Adobe Acrobat format. (.pdf format)
- Call and system logs- the complete server call logs and system maintenance logs are available via the LAN. (Web based)
