Web browser call control interfaces are provided for platform independent access.
A standard web browser interface for call control and voice mail access is provided called TelOper. TelOper Javascript/ HTML
software resides on the NTS Server, and is downloaded and interpreted by the browser at
the client PC each time the system is accessed.
TelOper requires a Netscape or Mozilla browser, and it will work on Macs, PCs, and Unix systems.
All you need is a Mozilla 5 (Macs and Linux) or Communicator 4 or later (Windows) Web Browser and a TCP/IP network connection.
A separate window is popped-up for TelOper, so you can continue to use
your web browser
for "surfing the net", and use the NTS Server network access
features at the same time. Note: TelOper is not compatible with Internet Explorer.
You can view a sample TelOper screen image
by clicking on the postage stamp view here. This image is about 90K. This is the
main screen for all call control operations in the NTS Server.
TelOper allows access to voice mail to play, delete, copy, and store messages.
Operational control of calls such as barge-in; sending calls to and from hold,
or swapping hold is possible with the click of a button. Also direct transfer,
consultation transfer, and conferencing are made intuitive with the graphical web
browser and JavaScript interface.
Call control status is viewable in the lower portion of the screen. If a conference
call is in progress, or a consultation transfer is in progress, then the status lights
appear and wink at a 1.5 second rate. The same is true if a call is on hold. Also,
unread voice mail will cause a blinking status button to appear as well.
You can maintain a speed dial list, and a personal
phone book, in addition to the system phone book. Your phone book can be maintained on
the server, or up or down loaded to your client PC. Your personal phone book can
be easily imported and exported from Microsoft Excel, or other data base manager that accepts
and outputs tab separated text files.

If you are the administrative user, you can get system information, administer the
day/night mode, and other functions right from your PC screen by clicking the button
with the key on it. A system log of all incoming and outgoing calls, with the ability
to filter the log for specific items your are interested in, is also provided.
Accessing TelOper from your web browser is as simple as typing in the URL of your
NTS Server: http://your_ system_name. The system name, and the Internet Protocol
address (IP address), is assigned by the system administrator when the system is first
installed on your network. Each time you access TelOper, you are presented with a
login screen, where you enter the extension number of the telephone your have on your
desk, and your personal password. You can associate TelOper with any telephone that
the NTS Server has been programmed to allow you to access.
Voice mail access is particularly useful, since you can view the time, date, and
length of the message, and listen to it using the multimedia player integral with the
Netscape or Mozilla Web Browser. If it is a private message, and you do not have a headset
installed, you can simply click on Listen with Telephone, pick up your handset, and
listen to the message in the normal manner.

You can easily copy any of your voice mail messages to another mail box, or save then
locally on your hard disk. You can record a Copy to Intro, which is an introductory
message that is prepended to any message you copy to another voice mail box. You can
delete selective messages, or record your personal greeting. Recording you personal
greeting is done by lifting your handset and clicking on the Record Greeting button,
then speaking into the telephone.
You are notified of new voice mail by a blinking button, and a red pop-up alert box
when it arrives. In addition, the dial tone on the associated extension is changed to
a "stutter" or interrupted dial tone, to signify a message has arrived and has not been
listened to. You can set up a numeric pager to be paged when new voice mail arrives. The pager
will be sent the caller ID (if available), the voice mail box number, and the number of
unread messages.
The media player in Netscape/Mozilla allows you to adjust the volume, and start and stop the
audio, so you can catch those phone numbers that have gone by too quickly.
Call Log viewing can be done by any user, for calls to or from the user's extension,
or, for all extensions by the system administrator. A filter can be set up, to select
only the numbers or combination or numbers you are interested in. Both OR-ing and AND-ing
functions are provided for filtering numbers in the log. Date ranges can also be selected.
Finally, the log can be saved
to the local hard disk for further review or printing. The format is compatible with
importing it to Excel or Word.

TelOper Call Control software is included with every NTS Server. To access
it, you need a TCP/IP network interface, which is standard on (or can be easily added to)
Windows 3.1, Windows 95/98, Windows NT, all Unix systems,
and Macintosh Power-PCs. Compatibility problems with 4.xx version browsers have been reported
on Macs and Linux.
